Paying attention when others look away
A simple verse locked in the back of the book of Colossians reminds me of the challenges we face today: Say to Archippus, take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it. Colossians 4:17
Paul, in the midst of his greetings to fellow workers in the ministry, singles out Archippus (only mentioned one other time in Scripture) for a special message. He wants Archippus to not only know his calling, but to pay close attention to that calling so that he will complete the mission.
Paul’s message to Archippus is pertinent to us today. In a world where our attention spans can be so short (witness anyone with a remote control in hand!), there are certain callings so valuable that we must pay attention.
Protecting life is one of those callings. Whether it be through ministry here, or in another capacity, one of the highest callings imaginable is that of protecting the innocent.
The movie “Amazing Grace” the story of William Wilberforce and his decades long battle to end the slave trade in England, is the story of a man who paid attention to his calling, never turning away until the mission was accomplished. William Wilberforce gave his all, and prevailed.
That is like our story here. We are a family of people who simply have a calling, who pay attention to that calling and know that in the end, we will prevail.
There are victories along the way, such as when a mother chooses life for her child or gives her heart to Jesus Christ. There are defeats as well, but we press on.
When Paul told Archippus to “take heed,” he likely wasn’t looking for a quick burst of enthusiasm. He was looking for a race-runner, someone who kept his eyes on the finish line and never diverted.
Here at Ramona Pregnancy Care Clinic our mission is to take heed, remaining focused on the mission. We are looking for others to do the same. Whether your gifting is in administration, listening, organizing, the medical field or elsewhere, you can be sure that if you are called, we have a place for you.
Are you called? Do you want to know more? If so, give us a call at 760-789-7059. Let’s get to know each other, because this family may be just the place for you to exercise your gifting and “fulfill the ministry” you received in the Lord.
